    Rachmaninoff: All-Night Vigil

Hear Sergei Rachmaninoff’s stunning a cappella masterpiece in the original Church Slavonic. Often called simply the Vespers, Rachmaninoff considered the piece one of his finest compositions. Ethereal, poignant, and beloved around the world, the All-Night Vigil was composed during the “golden age” of Russian choral music, when composers like Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and Rimski-Korsakov were all writing music using texts from the Russian Orthodox liturgy. The All-Night Vigil is considered the crowning musical achievement of this era.
