An Evening of Song

On Friday, September 12, 2014 at 7 p.m., start off your weekend right and indulge in an Evening of Song at The Church of St. John the Evangelist, 35 Bowdoin Street in Boston. Featuring soprano Caterina Minicozzi and mezzo-soprano Michelle Wright, the program will be a mix of art songs, oratorio, opera and popular songs, including the Pie Jesu (Requiem) by Andrew Lloyd Webber and the famous Barcarolle from Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffman.
Soprano Caterina Minicozzi has appeared in leading roles throughout Europe, the US, and Israel with such companies as Regensburg Stadttheater, Israel National Opera, New York Grand Opera, Mississippi Opera and the New Jersey State Opera, among others. She has been called “a forceful dramatic soprano” for her performance as Abigaille in Verdi’s Nabucco, and “a talented actress” by Opera International. She has studied with such illustrious teachers as Bruce Norris and the late Chloe Owen.
Mezzo-soprano Michelle Wright makes her home in the Boston area and is a member of the Church of St. John the Evangelist. She has been a soloist in the Mass for the Feast of San Gennaro, as well as in Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, both in New York City. Operatic roles include Anita in the world premiere of Roland Tec’s Stained Glass, Third Lady in The Magic Flute, Sally in A Hand of Bridge, and Euphrosina in The Miracles of Saint Nicholas: The Son of Getron, a medieval miracle drama directed by Thomas Forrest Kelly. Ms. Wright also studies with Bruce Norris.
Accompanying Ms. Minicozzi and Ms. Wright will be current music director/organist for Church of St. John the Evangelist, Jessica Rucinski, who has been involved with Harvard Early Music Society, Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, and Tanglewood Music Center. She has participated in masterclasses with Marilyn Horne, Kiri te Kanawa, Anne Sofie von Otter, and Martin Katz, among others.
