Cinematheque: "The 78 Project" Movie Screening with filmmakers Alex Steyermark and Lavinia Wright
September 19, 2014
Boston University's Film and Television Department’s Cinemathèque is a series of meetings and conversations with filmmakers/televison-makers and free screenings of important, innovative films and television programs. Cinematheque is the department’s premiere screening series.
This week, we will be screening The 78 Project with the filmmakers, Alex Steyermark and Lavinia Wright. The movie documents a journey across America to make one-of-a-kind 78rpm records with folk singers, punk rockers, Gospel and Cajun singers on their front porches, sitting rooms, kitchens and back stoops. Channeling recording styles of the ‘40s and ‘50s Steyermark and Wright travel through small town America with a 1930s Presto direct-to-disc recorder, a microphone, and pile of blank discs. In one 3-minute recording each musician shares their lives through an intimate performance of their music.
