Exhibition: Spies Like Us! Nathan Hale and Major Andre
June 5 - September 20, 2009
Bring the family to the galleries and learn about two of the most famous spies in American history, our patriot Nathan Hale and Britain's Major Andre. As a lieutenant in the Continental Army, Hale is infamously known for his failed mission where he heroically volunteered to secretly gather intelligence from the British. Upon discovery, Hale was interrogated and executed by the British army, leaving few known signatures. The museum owns one of Hale's signed textbooks from Yale University, which was donated to the museum in 2007. This book, and two famous depictions of the capture of Major André, the revolutionary spy for the British that led to the exposure of Benedict Arnold as a traitor, will be on view through September 20, 2009. Cost is free with price of admission.
