    The Oriana Consort-BEMF Fringe Concert

    In this hour-long, FREE concert you’ll hear the Consort’s 22-voice choir, soloists, and period instrumental ensemble perform choral music from the late and early Baroque period: · J. S. Bach’s cantata “Christ lag in Todesbanden” (“Christ lay in the bonds of death”; written by the young composer for an Easter Sunday service in Mühlhausen in 1707 or 1708) · Michel-Richard Delalande’s motet “De profundis” (Psalm 129/130; a “grand motet” for the memorial service at Versailles of the mother of Louis XV in 1724) · Peter Philips’ “Surgens Jesus Dominus” and “Ave verum corpus” (a cappella motets for the Archducal Chapel in Brussels, published in 1612 and written in a style transitional between the late Renaissance and the early Baroque) This concert is presented as part of the Boston Early Music Festival’s Fringe Concert Series.
