The Sixth Annual Boston Tango Festival will star Miriam Larici & Leonardo Barrionuevo, Hector Falcon, Cesar Coelho, Guillermina Quiroga and Tito Castro and his band. Events will be held at the Tango Society's own venue in Somerville and at the Boston-Brookline Holiday Inn, where there will be four rooms for classes, two ballrooms for milongas, and one heated pool for relaxing. Each year, The Boston Tango Festival attracts close to 700 people from all over the country and the world to learn from the Argentine masters. For the past four years and during the month of June, Boston’s Mayor Menino has declared “Tango Day in Boston” not only to honor the dance, but the culture.

Founded in June, 1997 as a non-profit volunteer-run organization dedicated to the support and growth of Argentine Tango in the Boston area, The Boston Tango society brings the best of authentic Argentine tango to Boston, including some of the best teachers on Broadway and in the world. For the past 12 years, they have acquired more than 4000 members and are probably the largest such organization in the U.S.A. and one of the most active. Members include people from all walks of life, with more than 20 countries represented including nations such as India, Russia and Bhutan.

The Tango Society of Boston has co-produced events with the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, WGBH Public Television in Boston, the Boston Public Library and the prestigious Hatch Shell. For the past four years they have been chosen to participate in First Night Boston and were honored to be part of the first Dance Across the City event in January 2004. They co-sponsored “Waterfire” in Providence, Rhode Island. They have been featured in most of Boston’s newspapers, on Channel 5’s Chronicle and other television programs.
