Agree that this version was a HUGE dissapointment. Singing ability of most of the stand-in's who made up the performance I saw was mediocre. AND.. .the worst part was that at the very opening...

Agree that this version was a HUGE dissapointment. Singing ability of most of the stand-in's who made up the performance I saw was mediocre. AND.. .the worst part was that at the very opening number... as the Shaman preistess (who apparently plays Rafiki, from the movie) appears on-stage to belt out her opening notes... HER MICROPHONE WAS OFF!... NO excuse for that!! THEN the overall level of the music and spoken performances was far too low... I'm not hard of hearing... I appreciate a MUSICAL that's supposed to "carry you away"... but NOT when you have to "pay attention" to hear it.
Lack-luster all around. Seen better mini-versions of this at Disney Theme parks and on their cruise line. What a rip-off to pay $100 per tix for this amature crap! Oh.. to the person below who complained about the character cracking jokes in a NY accent... have you SEEN THE MOVIE? That's "Timon"... the "wise cracking Meerkat" who was voiced by Nathan Lane. That's HOW that character sounds!

I was very disappointed in this "Disney Production"
of Lion King. I had seen the original in NYC 9 years
ago, and loved it! This modern version would have

of Lion King. I had seen the original in NYC 9 years
ago, and loved it! This modern version would have
Disney (Walt) turning in his grave. Music was
mediocre, and not recognizable for children; more
than a few jokes about "farting", "gas", etc. One
animal played the role of a NY comedian and
cracked one liners with an accent in the second
half. There were many adorable children in the
audience; I doubt they could relate to this "song
and dance" performance at all.It was like
vaudeville--very shallow. I lost track of the
storyline totally.
One scene featured partially clad ballet artists
swinging in the air doing awkward interpretations
of physical love.
Creepy. Not appealing. Would never recommend it!
I felt no emotion and no bond with the characters.
As Simon Cowell would say: "Forgettable"

Sadly, the acting and singing quality is poor, which is why I gave it the one star. I expect Broadway voices for a performance such as this and what I got was absolutely nothing like I've seen on...

Sadly, the acting and singing quality is poor, which is why I gave it the one star. I expect Broadway voices for a performance such as this and what I got was absolutely nothing like I've seen on Broadway or with these touring companies. Perhaps this was due to the accoustics but I was in Orchestra center, row S. I agree with the review below wholeheartedly, but give one star due to the quality of singing (and, this is a musical after all!).

From the staging to the music and acting, this production cannot hold a candle to the one in Boston several years ago. Every part of the staging seemed pared down, cheap. The singing was not good...

From the staging to the music and acting, this production cannot hold a candle to the one in Boston several years ago. Every part of the staging seemed pared down, cheap. The singing was not good (perhaps acoustics played a part also). When I saw this before the depth of voices and orchestra hit you in the pit of the stomach, and produced an emotional response. With this performance, it was impossible to suspend disbelief; with the acting and singing, the sometimes weird staging, and the forced emotionless performances of the main characters, it was an overall disappointment. (Except Scar, and the warthog and his buddy.....they were good).This production is thin, singers are mediocre at best, and the production overall is just ok. Having seen a better production, I really resent paying top dollar for a disappointing production. My advice...wait for another production to come....maybe it will be better.

If you have never been, do not miss it! Everyone should have this magical experience. Cast, staging, orchestra, costuming, crew, were impeccable. The Opera House is a fantastic venue. I was amazed at...

If you have never been, do not miss it! Everyone should have this magical experience. Cast, staging, orchestra, costuming, crew, were impeccable. The Opera House is a fantastic venue. I was amazed at how thoroughly well-behaved children in the audience were. I was astounded at the talent and discipline of the youngest performers. Do not miss this.
