Teen Art Classes! Second Summer Session!
July 27 - August 20, 2009
During the summers Stonybrook Fine Arts continuously offers Teen intensive classes from 9am – 5pm. Students take advantage of our unique relationship with the Museum of Fine Arts and receive access to a majority of the collection through our virtual gallery or by visiting the MFA itself. In addition to our regular classes, we also offer special workshops and intensives with our current teachers and other visiting artists. Stonybrook is open for business and admissions Monday – Friday and has limited benchtime available on Saturdays. Please visit the website for class prices, times and availability. Classes are reserved on a first come basis and class sizes are limited to ensure everyone gets the attention they deserve.
Teen Jewelry: Wearable art has been around since before there was fire. Explore the MFA’s various collections of jewelry and work on ideas. Silver, copper and brass are utilized while learning various methods of sawing, filing, riveting, soldering and polishing. Students also carve wax, invest their piece and cast it in silver or bronze.
Teen Welding: Welding is a large part of our lives from the cars we drive to the buildings we live in, and has become prevalent in modern art. Our welding students tour the MFA’s collection of welded sculpture, then practice various welding techniques at our studio. Students explore gas welding, arc welding and learn to use the many machines involved in welding and finishing.
Teen Foundry: Students tour the MFA’s collection of figurative bronze sculpture for inspiration in creating a wax. This piece is then taken through the process of molding, to pouring molten bronze and finally to exploring various finishing techniques.
Teen Stone Carving: Tour the MFA’s collection of stone sculpture and learn the ancient art of carving with alabaster. See your sculpture in the stone and learn how to make it come alive. Hand tools such as chisels, files and hammers will be used.
