Composer Yoko Nakatani explores through piano and narration the remarkable life of John Manjiro, a Japanese fisherman shipwrecked in 1841 and rescued by Americans, eventually coming to study in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. In this musical performance for all ages, learn how Manjiro became an early advocate for American global trade and encouraged cultural exchange with 19th Century Japan. Free and Open to the Public. This program is generously funded by the Lowell Institute.
