    Two-Point Perspective Gallery Talk

Sunil Sharma, assistant professor of Persianate and comparative literature, Boston University
Samina Quraeshi, Gardner Fellow and visiting artist, Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard University

This rotation in the Islamic and Later Indian art gallery combines representations of Islamic holy men in Sufi traditions with calligraphic specimens of mystical texts. The talk will consider the images on display and explore connections to a related exhibition, Sacred Spaces: Reflections on a Sufi Path, on view at Harvard's Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology from October 22, 2009–April 30, 2010.

This popular series pairs presenters to consider objects from more than one point of view. The informal talks, by Harvard Art Museum curators, conservators, and educators, and Harvard University faculty members, are designed to stimulate thinking about works of art and encourage participants to explore their own ways of seeing.

Free with the price of admission.
Limited to 30 participants. Please arrive early.
Gallery talks are informal and include discussion.

Sacred Spaces: The World of Dervishes, Fakirs, and Sufis is on view August 6, 2009–January 3, 2010 at the Arthur M. Sackler Museum.
