Emmanuel Music & Emmanuel Church Host Open House

On Saturday, October 3, 2009, Emmanuel Music and Emmanuel Church, joined by Boston Jewish Spirit, will open their doors to welcome friends old and new to its second annual Fall Open House. This event offers an opportunity to tour the historic sanctuary and Leslie Lindsey Chapel, learn about its rich history and active community, and to hear a rehearsal for the first Cantata of the 2009-10 Emmanuel Music season, J.S. Bach BWV 117, Sei Lob und Her dem hochsten Gut, conducted by Associate Conductor, Michael Beattie. Emmanuel Church's Priest-in-Charge, Pamela Werntz, will offer welcome remarks. The full performance of the Cantata will take place the following morning, October 4 at the Emmanuel Church during its Sunday Service at 10 am. As part of the festivities, Boston Jewish Spirit, a progressive Reform Jewish congregation which makes its home at Emmanuel Church, will be erecting and decorating a Sukkah in front of the church. This will be the first day of the ancient Biblical Harvest festival of Sukkot, and this "tabernacle" bedecked with the fruits and flowers of the harvest, is an ancient Jewish tradition of the season that Rabbi Howard Berman and members of the temple look forward to sharing with the broader community. Program: -Doors open at 10 am for tours, displays, and refreshments; decoration of the Sukkah -Motet rehearsal at 11:45 am, Michael Beattie, Associate Conductor, in the Sanctuary -Cantata rehearsal at 12:00 noon with the Orchestra and Chorus of Emmanuel Music in the Sanctuary
