  This performance was a most happy experience. Having been appalled by the MET Luc Bondy updating, I was so glad to see that the work's theatrical integrity was treated with all due respect by Scott Brumit. The Longwood performance was beautifully sung by all; I especially enjoyed the visceral and primal accounts by Jennifer Hoffmann, Christopher Smith and Rick Mahoney. Longwood's Music Director and Pianist, Jeffrey Brody, managed to conjure up a full-sized Puccini orchestra despite the limitations of the upright piano. The staging dealt with the essentials in a most practical manner. At the end I realized that fidelity to the sprit and letter of the score, as provided by Longwood Opera,makes for an extremely satisfying and moving evening. I have seen many of their productions in recent seasons and am extremely impressed with the high caliber of singing, staging and accompaniment. This is a company whose every effort needs to be supported and appreciated. Best one to date!! Collapse

  We have been to the Met,La Scala, etc. We wondered how the Longwood Opera would measure up. We were enchanted. The voices were out of this world.I can't believe that in our area we have such talent.It's such a wonderful thing to listen to and support the Longwood Opera.Tosca is a great opera and this is a wonderful production.   Longwood Opera's "Tosca" is fabulous! The caliber of singing is at the professional level; diction, acting, staging,singing...all top drawer. Great to hear these young singers in local venues before... Expand
