October 26, 2009
SPEAKER: Mike Bonanno of the "Yes Men"
VENUE CHANGED FOR THIS EVENT TO: Bartos Theater, Wiesner Building, Building E15, 20 Ames Street, Cambridge Free and open to the public.
The Yes Men were featured in the documentary, The Yes Men Fix the World, which won the Panorama Audience Award at the 2009 Berlin Film Festival.
The activist collective The Yes Men transformed New York city for a day through a tactical media intervention. A hoax print of the New York Times was massively distributed throughout the city during the US presidential election campaign in 2008.
The Yes Men have an unusual hobby: posing as top executives of corporations they hate. Armed with nothing but thrift-store suits, The Yes Men lie their way into business conferences and parody their corporate targets in ever more extreme ways - basically doing everything that they can to wake up their audiences to the danger of letting greed run our world.
This event is part of the MIT Visual Arts Program Fall 2009 Lecture Series, "City As Stage, City As Process."
This event was made possible in part by the Grants Program of the Council for the Arts at MIT.
