Russian/American Connection kicks off New Philharmonia Orchestra’s Fall Season, featuring noted soloist Benjamin Pasternack.

Celebrating “Music For All” on Saturday & Sunday, November 21-22, 2009 in Newton Centre.

Russian and American compositions rich in musical color and passion will headline the New Philharmonia Orchestra’s Newton Centre performance on November 21 & 22. Renowned pianist Benjamin Pasternack will perform Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Paganini. Maestro Ron Knudsen and the New Phil’s 75-member orchestra further explore the “Russian/American Connection” with American composer Jennifer Higdon’s soaring work blue cathedral and Rimsky-Korsakov’s dramatic Scheherazade. Performances will take place in the beautiful, late-Victorian surroundings of the First Baptist Church in Newton Centre: Saturday, November 21 at 8pm and Sunday, November 22 at 3 pm.

Among the most experienced and versatile musicians today, the American pianist Benjamin Pasternack has performed as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician on four continents. His orchestral engagements have included appearances as soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, the Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich, the New Japan Philharmonic, and many others.

The New Philharmonia Orchestra, founded in 1995, is a 75-member non-professional regional orchestra based in Newton. Its motto, Music For All, encapsulates the spirit of the organization: The New Phil presents programs of diverse repertoire of classical and light classical music, performed by high-caliber musicians, for the enjoyment of audiences of all ages and experiences.
