To the Stars by Hard Ways by Richard and Nikolai Vikorov (Russia, 1981, 123 min.). This science- fiction flick follows Starship Pushkin, boldly going where no man has gone before. During its journey through space, the crew finds an abandoned vessel filled with the decaying bodies of humanoids. The one surviving crew member—a gynoid named Niya—seeks the help of earthlings to restore her polluted home planet of Dessa to its natural splendor. Richard Vikorov’s son restores the film in 2001, using film clips, shooting scripts, original camera outtakes, director’s notes, and a surviving 70 mm positive print.
