    Smart Women: Fashion in Photography from Steichen to Sherman

    Carol Squiers will explore the ways in which art, photojournalism, portraiture, and editorial photography have shaped the image of the fashionable woman from 1923 to the present.

    Carol Squiers is a writer, editor, adjunct professor, and curator at the International Center of Photography (2000-present). She was the co-curator (with Vince Aletti) of the exhibitions Avedon Fashion 1944-2000 and Weird Beauty: Fashion Photography Now, and co-curator of Edward Steichen: In High Fashion, the Condé Nast Years, 1923-1937 and Dress Codes: The Third ICP Triennial of Photography and Video, which were all part of the 2009 Year of Fashion at ICP. She has edited several books, most recently, Overexposed: Essays on Contemporary Photography, (2000) and previously was senior editor at American Photo magazine from 1990 to 2000. Her essays have appeared in numerous publications and books.
