Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian tradition that incorporates dance, acrobatics, self-defense, percussion, and songs in a rhythmic dialogue of body, mind, and spirit. Originally used as an expression of resistance by slaves in Brazil, it has developed into a respected art of grace and strength. Capoeira is a movement game in which two opponents compete playfully with one another, masking defensive kicks with acrobatics and dance-like moves employed to fool their opponent and catch them off guard. This class will introduce basic capoeira moves, instrument introduction, and will be an engaging full body and mind workout. Instrutora Sereia is the director of ABADA Capoeira-Boston, and studied under one of the highest ranked female capoeiristas in the world, Marcia Treidler. Capoeira will be played with no shoes. Please wear comfortable workout clothing (white preferred). This class is open to beginners as well as those with experience. Note: No class February 27th. For ages 14+. Register online or by phone.
