Building on a Legacy: Renzo Piano's Designs for the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum's Extension

Thursday, January 28, 2010 6:30 PM - With Anne Hawley, Norma Jean Calderwood Director, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum Join Anne Hawley, the Norma Jean Calderwood Director of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, as she shares plans and details from the new Renzo Piano-designed wing which will build on Isabella Stewart Gardner’s extraordinary legacy and vision. This new space, itself a work of art, exemplifies Renzo Piano’s signature talent for seamlessly integrating the contemporary with the historic through an uncompromising attention to detail. The new building—which will be a new cultural and architectural landmark for Boston and the Fenway Cultural District—will enhance the visitor experience while also relieving pressure on the Gardner’s historic collection. Hawley will highlight some of the unique features of the design such as the jewel box-like concert hall and the vertically expanding, light-filled contemporary gallery. Advanced ticket sales for members only January 5-11. Tickets go on sale to the general public January 12.
