Thursdays [8:00] Jan. 14, 21, 28, Feb. 4, 11 In this performance-based class you’ll learn to improvise by playing your instrument. You will draw on what you already know- the chords and songs you’ve learned, the technique you have and your imagination- to begin to improvise on the guitar. You will develop improvisational skills that will enable you to play with other musicians, create solos, play along with recorded music and leap over tall buildings with a single bound. By offering simple tools and presenting approaches shared by accomplished improvisers, this course will give you a head-start to finding your own improvisational voice. You will also develop practice strategies that will enable you to continue your learning beyond class. Guitarists interested in all styles of music are welcome. Some ability on the guitar - a few chords, a song or two and maybe even a scale - is helpful. More advanced players who are new to improvisation are also welcome to attend.
