An afternoon of Jazz with the Worcester Children's Chorus, featuring the Monica Hatch Trio
January 30, 2010
The Monica Hatch Trio comes to the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury on Saturday January 30, 2010, to join in a Worcester Children’s Chorus benefit concert at 4 PM. The event will feature jazz selections by the trio and assorted choral pieces performed by the Worcester Children’s Chorus. Monica Hatch is an established recording and performing artist who hosted the Jazz Matinee on NPR for more than five years. As a sought after soprano, she has been a soloist with The Massachusetts Symphony, The Thayer Symphony, The Concord Symphony, Cathedral of St. Pauls Festival Orchestra, The Bach Society of Worcester, The Worcester Chorus and dozens of church choirs. Her role in the Duke Ellington Sacred Concerts at the Boston Globe Jazz and Blues Festivals has brought her great acclaim as a jazz soprano. Cadence Magazine has noted:"Monica Hatch is definitely a Jazz singer. Her voice floats easily along her material with a clean, bright sound retained even on her scat vocals." More information on Miss Hatch can be found at http://www.monicahatch.com. The Worcester Children's Chorus is in its second year of providing a quality musical experience through training in choral singing. The children range in age from 9 to 18 and hail from Worcester and its surrounding communities. They perform a wide variety of classical and contemporary choral music. The artistic staff of the chorus, Jennifer Kane, Malcolm Halliday, and Philip Montgomery, brings years of experience in directing treble voices and adult choirs. A reception with refreshments for sale and a themed basket raffle will follow the performance
