"RIVERDANCE"... "IMAGINE TAP"... "SOMETHING TO TAP ABOUT"... "TAPPED"--all have one thing in common: featured soloist, choreographer and director, Aaron Tolson who has been entertaining crowds and teaching dance for years and is now bringing his precise steps and brilliant choreography to the Regent Theatre stage for one show only Friday, January 15 at 8pm. This kid friendly, contemporary tap concert--featuring some of New Hampshire & Massachusetts' best dancing talent--will delight audiences with its high energy performances and dynamic choreography. Featured dancers in "Tapped In" will include Sarah Michaelson, Deborah Opar, Jess Vetrano, and Ayan Imai Hall--all recently seen in Clara's Dream; former Miss New Hampshire, Emily Tolson; former Miss New Hampshire "Outstanding Teen," Megan Lyman; and special guest six-foot, eight-inch award-winning tap wonder, Ryan Casey of the Legacy Dance Company, currently studying dance at New York University. About Aaron Tolson A native of Manchester, New Hampshire, Tolson has been tapping for 24 years. He is one of two national spokespersons for SoDanca, a consultant and writer for Dance Spirit Magazine, a Professor of Dance at Plymouth State University and the Boston Conservatory, as well as the assistant choreographer, consultant and trainer for Riverdance the Show, and co-creator and assistant producer of Imagine Tap!--a show created with Derick Grant. Tolson started dancing at the age of 10 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and just four years later, he was performing in the Great Tap Reunion at the Apollo Theatre. Soon he found Julia Boynton in Boston and she guided him in the direction of tap as a lifestyle. He went to St. John's University obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications all the while honing his tap technique in Manhattan. His senior year of college landed him in the New York Shakespeare Festival tap program, also known as Funk U! Soon he became a company member of Manhattan Tap and worked with the show Tap Dogs. Jumping feet first into choreography, he landed a job with Absolut with a tour called Absolut Tap! He choreographed a piece for their second tour and was a dance captain for all of their teams for two years. In 2005, Tolson completed a six-year run with Riverdance the show where he was a featured soloist. It brought him to Broadway and Radio City Music Hall and was also the captain of its Tap Dancers. (He still scouts and trains new tap dancers for the show.) Since then, he has performed and taught at the Beantown Tap Festival, LA Tap Festival, Brazil Tap Festival and performed with Brookline Chorus’ Duke Ellington Sacred Concert and on The Late Show with Liam O’Conner in Dublin, Ireland. Tolson formed New England Tap Ensemble in May of 2007 to promote the art of tap in the community while fostering a sense of individuality in a professional artist. Its first production was the acclaimed "Something to Tap About" choreographed, produced and directed by Tolson that same year. Now, in 2010, audiences will get "Tapped In" to an evening of toe-tapping fun and tap dancing like you've never seen! For more info on The New England Tap Ensemble visit www.newenglandtap.com.
