A Tale of Two Jazz Bands - Agachiko and Charlie Kohlhase's 'Explorer's Club'

AGACHIKO is comprised of remarkable players. Russ Gershon/sax (Either/Orchestra), Ken Field/flute (Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, Birdsongs of the Mezzazoic), Scott Getchell/trumpet~flugelhorn and Chris Forkey (Le Prestige), Ara Sarkissian/piano (Musaner), Phil Neighbors/drums (Jeff Robinson Trio, Revolutionary Snake Ensemble), Joey Pesce/guitar (ex-Til Tuesday), and Gabrielle Agachiko/vocals. They perform the music of Nina Simone, Buddy Johnson, Maltby/Shire, and others in addition to some original compositions. An interesting and heady blend of old school jazz, blues, and soul, with just a dash of rock! CHARLIE KOHLHASE has been leading bands in Boston for the last quarter century. His latest group, the Explorers Club, is a fully- realized 7-piece ensemble of virtuosos capable of executing his most convoluted compositional designs. Drawing on 100 years of Jazz history, as well as influences of rhythm and blues, 20th century composed music and world music traditions, the Explorers Club is a group firmly rooted in the past but unquestionably driving the music forward in the 21st
