    Two-Point Perspective Gallery Talk

Ray Williams, director of education, Harvard Art Museum, and adjunct lecturer in public humanities, Brown University
Steve Lubar, director, John Nicholas Brown Center for Public Humanities and Cultural Heritage, and professor, departments of American Civilization and History, Brown University

How did 20th-century artists respond to the rapid industrialization and technological innovation of their time? What can we learn about modern life, history, and aesthetic developments from works that celebrate the machine age? This conversation will focus on how two key works, by Charles Sheeler (Upper Deck, 1929) and László Moholy-Nagy (Light Prop for an Electric Stage, 1930), might be used in teaching about art, history, and civic life.

This popular series considers objects from more than one point of view. The informal talks, many of them by Harvard Art Museum curators, conservators, and educators and Harvard University faculty members, are designed to stimulate thinking about works of art and encourage participants to explore their own ways of seeing.

Free with the price of admission. Open to the public.
Gallery talks are informal and include discussion. Limited to 25 participants; please arrive early.
