Ray Traetti, associate director of facilities, Memorial Hall/Lowell Hall Complex

Memorial Hall was built to commemorate the patriotism of the graduates and students of Harvard who served in the US Army and Navy during the Civil War. Designed by William Ware and Henry Van Brunt and completed in 1878, the Ruskinian Gothic building is a dramatic example of the architectural style of its time. Within it is Annenberg Hall, a private undergraduate dining hall inspired by the great halls of Oxford and Cambridge universities. Memorial Hall houses an impressive collection of paintings, statuary, and stained glass to which the public has limited access, so this tour is a rare opportunity.

Harvard Treasures is a new series offered to Harvard Art Museum members only that will explore the university’s architectural riches and art holdings beyond the museum.

Participation is free, but registration is required.

To learn more about membership and to register for the tour, please call 617-495-4544 or email artmuseum_membership@harvard.edu.
