Berklee Student and Songwriting Major Natalie Weaver recently visited Pader, Uganda to work with youth effected by the ongoing war. She taught them songwriting and helped out at the school. They mainly focused on lyric writing and melody because of their lack of guitars to add harmony. The only guitar they had to work with was Natalie’s. After hearing her story, Allison Preisinger (another Berklee student) wanted to support Natalie’s endeavor for expression and creativity in Uganda by doing something to help bring guitars to Pader. Allison decided to put together a benefit performance of Berklee songwriters to raise money to ship donated guitars and music supplies to the youth Natalie worked with. With help from her peers, Berklee, and the community, the event will take place March 27, 2010 at 7pm at Lily Pad located at 1353 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA. An entertaining, fun and thought provoking mix of singer-songwriter, pop and folk styles will make the night a special one. Hannah Christianson (www.myspace.com/musicofhannah), Robert Gillies (www.robertgillies.com), Natalie Sara (www.myspace.com/nataliesara), and Allison Preisinger (www.allisonpreisinger.com), all Berklee singer-songwriters, will be performing their original music. Entry is by donation ($10 suggested) and there will be a raffle with great items to win! It is sure to be a great way to spend your Saturday evening!
