A Grammy award nominee and one of Tibet’s foremost world music composers and musicians, Nawang Khechog is one of the first Tibetan musicians to break into the international music scene. In 2007, he received the Tibetan Music Award, a special recognition similar to the U.S. Lifetime Achievement Award, and the International Civil Golden Award, the highest civilian award of Nepal. A monk for 11 years, Khechog studied Buddhist philosophy and meditation with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other Tibetan masters. Presented by the Office for Religious and Spiritual Life at Wellesley College.
