Exhibit - Theodore Roosevelt, John Hay and the Balance of Power in Asia Saturday, May 29-Monday, October 11, Open during Main House Hours. President Roosevelt was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for his work in the negotiations that led to the Treaty of Portsmouth, ending the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. John M. Hay, Fells founder and Roosevelt's Secretary of State, was instrumental in Open Door policy negotiations in Asia that preceded the negotiations in Portsmouth (although he died shortly before the Treaty was formally signed). During Roosevelt's 1902 reelection campaign his visit to New Hampshire included a stay at The Fells. This exhibit examines the lasting contributions of these two men in U.S.-East Asian relations and is a permanent installation in the Roosevelt Bedroom of The Fells Main House. Exhibit in The Fells 22 room mansion at 456 Route 103A, Newbury, NH 03255. For more information: 603-763-4789, info@thefells.org, www.thefells.org.
