The sexy, dark comedy ENTERTAINING MR. SLOANE, directed by Eric Engel, revolves around the charming, enigmatic Mr. Sloane (Jack Cutmore-Scott) as he arrives to rent a room from Kath (Sandra Shipley), a lonely, delusional landlady, in the junkyard house she shares with her declining father, Kemp (Dafydd Rees). A handsome opportunist, Sloane quickly ingratiates himself, entering into seductions offered by both Kath, and her estranged brother Ed (Nigel Gore), who soon employs Sloane as his driver. Sloane’s past misdeeds and the dueling affections within the family soon collide, leading to a desperate act that proves the limit of his charms, and reveals the ruthless and cunning strategies that Sloane’s victims will engage in to preserve their unique arrangement. Presented by Publick Theatre Boston.

      Truthfully, I would go anywhere (and have) to experience Sandra Shipley. She is a marvel in this show which I found to be feisty and frightening at the same time. The entire small (4) cast was splended but as usual Shipley is almost beyond belief. I was already familiar with the play and its author, whose story is even more chilling as it becomes entwined in this production. I have personally called and told many friends, "this must not be missed!" Collapse

      Just when you think you know what Mr. Sloane is up to, you find out that he may not realize what he's up *against*! This is a madly entertaining little drama with an excellent all-British cast, who bring out all the crazy nuances of dark British comedy. You'll laugh and be appalled by turns, but it never gets so dark that you wish you were elsewhere. Everyone involved is just too strange and lovable/hateable to desert--you have to know where they all end up. There's never a dull moment as the characters parry and thrust, take wounds and give them, win skirmishes and lose them. By the end, young Mr. Sloane's head is spinning, and yours will be too--but in a pleasurable way. Don't miss this one! Collapse
