Witness Cantata, composed by Ambassador Swanee Hunt, combines chorus, orchestra, soloists and a narrator to explore the themes of human suffering, endurance and rebirth. This work is structured around the tradition of the “seven last words” of Jesus on the cross, as reflected in writings of Anna Akhmatova, Theodore Roethke, William Blake, Elie Wiesel and the composer herself. There will be a pre-concert discussion with composer Swanee Hunt.
