CITY OF LOWELL’S FREE FILM FESTIVAL SHOWCASES HOLLYWOOD’S GOLDEN AGE OF CINEMA Weekend lineup includes Charlie Chaplin’s “Modern Times” and Frank Capra’s “It Happened One Night” LOWELL, MA, February, 2010 – The City of Lowell is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Lowell Film Festival, Thursday, April 8 - Saturday, April 10, taking place throughout downtown Lowell. The three-day event will focus on the films the nation watched during Hollywood’s “Golden Age” of the 1930’s, a time when cinema was larger than life and humor, drama, and big budget musicals soothed the country’s depression-era turmoil. Opening night festivities include a spotlight on Lowell’s own Bette Davis with a special screening of “Jezebel.” The weekend lineup includes screenings of “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, ” Charlie Chaplin’s “Modern Times,” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “The Grapes of Wrath,” and a late-night showings of James Whale’s horror classics “Frankenstein” and “Bride of Frankenstein.” The 3rd Annual Lowell Film Festival is presented by the Cultural Organization of Lowell (COOL) with support from the University of Massachusetts/Lowell, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and the Lowell Film Collaborative.
