Director Amelia LeClair will lead the women’s chorus and period instrument ensemble Cappella Clausura for a rarely heard Easter season mass by the brilliant Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, one of the remarkable women composers living in the convents of 17th Century Italy. The mass will be performed with sacred motets and chants from the medieval, baroque, renaissance and modern eras, juxtaposing diverse styles for a varied and unusual program. In celebration of Women’s History Month in March, Messa Paschale offers a unique window into the artistic lives of a broad spectrum of women composers. The program features Psalm 136 by contemporary composer Hilary Tann, who especially rewrote the piece for high voices. Special guest Catherine Liddell, theorbo, joins the ensemble.
