    Minus 32 Million Words

Acclaimed comic, actor and writer Sue Costello tracks her life growing up in a chaotic home in Dorchester and how it led her to a desperate need for fame and money, and to the final realization that her past does not have to become her future. Alternately heartbreaking and hilarious, the show combines Costello’s street- smart Boston take-no-prisoners wit with her ability to bring an audience to tears.

“Sue Costello’s charismatic performance is mesmerizing as you march with her through her teenage years on the Dorchester streets through her life in New York and Hollywood.” –Colin Quinn

Actress and comedian Sue Costello, a native of Boston, has had her own self-titled Fox sitcom, appeared in several hit movies, and performed her stand-up on Last Comic Standing. Her one-woman show, Minus 32 Million Words is a hilarious, brutally honest look at her chaotic upbringing in Dorchester, her even more chaotic show business career and how she survived it all with a lot of laughter and hope.

On a nearly empty stage, actress and comedian Sue Costello is a teenager dreaming of a different life as she postures in front of a full-length mirror. “One of these days, I’m going to be somebody,” she fantasizes in her one-woman show, “Minus 32 Million Words.” “I’m going to be pretty and rich and famous.”

Ninety minutes later, Costello is an adult who wants self-acceptance more than stardom.

“Laugh or you’ll die.” That’s Sue Costello’s motto. If you see “Minus 32 Million Words,” you’ll know that she means it literally.

Costello, a Dorchester native, doesn’t initiate you gently into her one-woman show. She digs right into her autobiography, starting as an eighth grader mouthing off to a priest in Savin Hill and winding up a grown woman mouthing off to a therapist in Los Angeles.
