Thursday, May 30, 8 pm at American Repertory Theater’s Oberon, 2 Arrow Street, Cambridge

Stuck in a Lenny Bruce Time Warp is a show conceived by The Meltdown Incentive Inspiration is derived from Lenny Bruce censorship, the most renowned stand-up comedian, social critic and satirist of his time A varied collection of texts touching on humor, sadness, shock, romance, grocery stores, beer, sex, and more are presented in an uncensored manner Texts are wrought from the performers’ personal experiences, as well as famous and local poets (the likes of Maya Angelou, or local poet Lisa DeSiro), bizarre recipes, raunchy craigslist ads, prolific quotes, and induced audience participation Improvisational music runs the genre gamut from classical art song to screaming metal
Bridging the gaps between classical music and jazz, concert music and theater, The Meltdown Incentive explores the complex relationships between text, sound, and music in entertaining and thought-provoking new ways Their highly original blend of musical sensitivity, personality, and sense of humor makes their performances fresh, exciting experiences for both adults and children The quintet is comprised of five of Boston’s finest young musicians: Sara Bielanski, vocals; Rob Bethel, cello; Todd Brunel, clarinets; Del Case, piano/keyboards; Ed Broms, bass, piano and percussion instruments
Special guest drummer, composer, artist, poet, dancer, visionary and nature mystic, Bob Moses's life has been a continuous quest for vision, spirit, compassion, growth, and mastery in a multiplicity of art forms A partial list of stellar musicians Moses has worked and/or recorded with both as a leader and a sideman includes: Charles Mingus, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Gary Burton, Keith Jarrett, Steve Swallow, Pat Metheny, Paul Bley, Herbie Hancock, Jack DeJohnette, Jaco Pastorius, Bobby McFerrin, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Terumasa Hino, Dave Holland, Charlie Haden, and Pharoah Sanders Bob Moses currently teaches at the New England Conservatory of Music Tickets are $15 for table seats, $12 for stool seats, $10 for standing room, available by visiting wwwcluboberoncom, calling 617-547-8300, or at the door, as available For more information, please visit wwwthemeltdownincentivecom, or follow The Meltdown Incentive on Facebook

Bill Santiago is the first born of at least four children He became a standup after narrowly escaping a career in journalism, facing the fact that as a comedian he was funny, but as a reporter he was a joke It’s been said he was born to Puerto Rican immigrants, which is technically untrue, as Puerto Ricans are US citizens Although, he’s got an uncle who was once deported to the Bronx While connecting solidly with his Latino fans, Santiago is just as as popular for his straight ahead mainstream material, reminiscent of George Carlin, and showcasing Santiago's journalistic roots, obsessions with language, and keen insights on everything from Current Events to Cats to Religion to Facebook With the premiere of his first television special, “Comedy Central Presents: Bill Santiago,” he won over fans nationwide with his dead-on observations about Spanglish – “twice the vocabulary, half the grammar!” and his beloved catchphrase “¡Porque Because!” Which led to his first book, "Pardon My Spanglish" - the first humor book in Spanglish actually written in Spanglish all the way through (Available on Amazon) Santiago's second half-hour special for Showtime airs in 2011 Other credits include: Craig Ferguson, Conan O'brien, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, Chelsea Lately, Good Morning America Now, ABC news, NBC TV Visiones, BBC World NPR’s Latino USA

The best comedy comes out of how we deal with life’s tragedies, and The Memory of Water takes on tragedy with a comic vengeance! Three sisters return home for their mother’s funeral, each haunted by her own demons and memories of the past As the bereaved sisters indulge in witty bickering and dope-induced dress-up, their quarrels over the funeral arrangements, their well-worn family roles, their unsatisfactory men and their mixed memories of a feminine working-class mother are as hilarious as they are painful Playwright Shelagh Stephenson skillfully charts the joyous and distressing territory of family relationships with insight and compassion

Directed by award-winning director Nancy Curran Willis, with an award-winning cast at an award-winning community theatre Don't miss this evening of dark comedy!

Zero Point Theater’s new staging of Merchant of Venice, while essentially true to Shakespeare’s text, is set against the background of a Jazz/Blues World during Prohibition, in a Venice very like (but not) New Orleans

Antonio, our Merchant of “Venus” (one of Shakespeare’s many puns), is a rumrunner whose understanding of love is sadly warped by his mercantile nature He so monetizes love that he risks his very life borrowing from Shylock to provide money to Bassanio, who he achingly loves but, under the strictures of society, he can never have He even gives the money to Bassanio to woo a woman

Portia, whose own father did not see her as capable to choose her own mate, is one of the most brilliant people around She cares little about her wealth, her beauty and her sexiness except as tools She so desperately wants to be respected for her mind, in a world in which only men can be, that she risks exposure and ridicule by disguising herself as a man to argue law in the bright spotlight of the Venetian Court

Shylock is a black woman who owns a Speakeasy Jazz Club, and a devout Jew She struggles under both the disrespect of her white Christian competitors, and the pain of the hard choices, unfair deprivations, and compromises in her values she made to get where she is In her desire to ensure her daughter Jessica a better life than she herself had, Shylock so represses and keeps Jessica cloistered at home that Jessica elopes with a Christian, and a lot of Shylock’s money Shylock’s dogged insistence on a literal enforcement of Antonio’s bond in order to gain the respect of the law backfires, and leads to the loss of all she holds dear

Zero Point’s production of Merchant will challenge the audience to recognize and re-think its own perspectives on gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and the us versus them struggles which either bind us together in a sense of security, or expose us to biting and lonely pain, and at worst threaten our sense of personal identity and value

"Nicky Park Memorial Park" is the story of a girl who knows all about what she's going to know before she knows it Coming of age in a world of Judy Blume novels and widespread transgression, she tries to navigate selfhood while battling a deep obsession with a boy who no longer exists As we travel through her mind, her world, and her headphones, we learn what a ghost can be--and what to do with one if we find it Amid a soundtrack filled with confusion and yearning, Nicky Park Memorial Park sends an honest, unsparing love letter to the 1990's--professing devotion, but also demanding an explanation

This world-premiere production is brought to Boston by the young writing/creative team that took New York by storm last summer with their electro-dance interpretation of Gertrude Stein's opus, "Doctor Faustus Lights the Lights" at the 3LD Center This production is directed by Abby Colella, and features Sami Horneff, Ned Riseley, and Ellie Shepley

by Israel Horovitz

Directed by Robert Walsh

Set in Gloucester, Massachusetts, North Shore Fish depicts the painfully real and funny way of life for the workers (mostly women) in a failing fish-processing plant The once-thriving plant which formerly processed the daily catch of the local fishing fleet, has been reduced to repacking frozen blocks of fish imported from Japan for TV dinners Tenacity, colorful irreverence and, ultimately, the fierce loyalty of a group of Gloucester assembly-line workers brand this Pulitzer Prize nominated comedic drama The ever-present challenges faced by Cape Anne’s fishing industry make Horovitz’s play as relevant as when it christened the current home of the Gloucester Stage Company in 1986

**Contains explicit language and is NOT suitable for children**

LAUGHING STOCK – August 7 – 18

A backstage farce by Charles Morey

A hilarious comedy and genuinely affectionate look into the world of the theatre When The Playhouse, a rustic New England summer theatre (any resemblance to the Peterborough Players is purely coincidental, of course), schedules a repertory season of Dracula, Hamlet and Charley's Aunt, comic mayhem ensues We follow the well-intentioned but over-matched company from outrageous auditions, to ego-driven rehearsals, through opening nights gone disastrously awry, to the elation of a great play well told and the comic and nostalgic season close Chuck Morey, former Artistic Director of the Peterborough Players, (who directed last season’s The 39 Steps) returns to direct this big hit from the 2004 season

by Kenneth Lonergan

Directed by Lewis D Wheeler
Set over the course of 48 hours, This is Our Youth examines the lives of three privileged teenagers in 1980’s Manhattan - when and where an abundance of worldly knowledge and money proves no substitute for familial affection In meticulous, hilarious, and agonizing detail, Youth provides a snapshot of that moment between adolescence and adulthood when young people first go out into the world on their own – only to realize that the ideas and techniques that they developed as teenagers are far less effectual than they ever could have imagined Jimi Stanton (the critically acclaimed star of 9 Circles), Elliot Norton Award-winner Alex Pollock, and Amanda Collins (9 Circles) are among the cast

**Contains explicit language and simulated drug use and is NOT suitable for children**
Talk-back following Sunday, August 11 performance
'This is quite simply, a sterling example of why we keep going…THIS IS OUR YOUTH is as good as theater gets' —NY DAILY NEWS

Voted one of Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch” in 2008, Ralphie May has filmed a record-setting four separate 1-hour Comedy Central Specials, all of which were among the networks most highly-rated He filmed his latest special, Too Big to Ignore, on October 1st at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, proving that Ralphie’s relatable comedic genius is in higher demand than ever
Since his debut on season one of “Last Comic Standing,” audiences can’t get enough of the larger than life comedian He has a no nonsense point of view and the ability to connect with a diverse audience by pointing out society’s hypocrisies Ralphie doesn’t shy away from touchy topics or ethnic jokes, nor does he bite his tongue when society suggests, because he sincerely believes that as long as what he’s saying is true, people need to hear it
On the small screen, Ralphie has worked as a writer and producer on ESPN's “Mohr Sports” starring Jay Mohr and performed stand-up on numerous late night talk shows including four appearances on CBS's “The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn” as well as eleven appearances on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” As if that’s not enough, he’s also one of a handful of comedians to have received a standing ovation on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”
