“…the antithesis of stuffy, over polished dance…The intimacy lends Mateo’s dynamic choreography a raw power that is compulsively watchable…”

Best of Boston Dance Performance 2011, Boston Magazine
“Mateo has cultivated a thriving dance laboratory…Here its all about the creation, a place for teaching, growth, and ingenuity” WGBH Greater Boston Arts

Unlike the many traditional narrative ballets that recount a linear sequence of logical events, Mateo's ballets invite the audience to suspend their reliance on reason and to experience a different order -- or is it a world of madness into which his beautiful dancers lure us? See the Season’s culminating event, Method and Madness, featuring a highly anticipated Mateo premiere
The concert features Over and Over (2009) set to Symphony #2 by American composer Philip Glass, considered one of the most influential composers of the late-20th century Over and Over takes us to the all-too-familiar but nameless space where the painfully compacted effects of personal loss and the vastness of repetitious history intersect The concert finale offers a Mateo world premiere
Method & Madness offers a unique theater experience with an extraordinary close-up view of the dancers, reserved cabaret-style seating and cocktails during the show Recently hailed by Boston Magazine as “Best of Boston 2011 Dance Performance”, the glorious Sanctuary Theatre is home to Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre and considered one of the area’s most spectacular performance spaces

Thursday, May 30, 8 pm at American Repertory Theater’s Oberon, 2 Arrow Street, Cambridge

Stuck in a Lenny Bruce Time Warp is a show conceived by The Meltdown Incentive Inspiration is derived from Lenny Bruce censorship, the most renowned stand-up comedian, social critic and satirist of his time A varied collection of texts touching on humor, sadness, shock, romance, grocery stores, beer, sex, and more are presented in an uncensored manner Texts are wrought from the performers’ personal experiences, as well as famous and local poets (the likes of Maya Angelou, or local poet Lisa DeSiro), bizarre recipes, raunchy craigslist ads, prolific quotes, and induced audience participation Improvisational music runs the genre gamut from classical art song to screaming metal
Bridging the gaps between classical music and jazz, concert music and theater, The Meltdown Incentive explores the complex relationships between text, sound, and music in entertaining and thought-provoking new ways Their highly original blend of musical sensitivity, personality, and sense of humor makes their performances fresh, exciting experiences for both adults and children The quintet is comprised of five of Boston’s finest young musicians: Sara Bielanski, vocals; Rob Bethel, cello; Todd Brunel, clarinets; Del Case, piano/keyboards; Ed Broms, bass, piano and percussion instruments
Special guest drummer, composer, artist, poet, dancer, visionary and nature mystic, Bob Moses's life has been a continuous quest for vision, spirit, compassion, growth, and mastery in a multiplicity of art forms A partial list of stellar musicians Moses has worked and/or recorded with both as a leader and a sideman includes: Charles Mingus, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Gary Burton, Keith Jarrett, Steve Swallow, Pat Metheny, Paul Bley, Herbie Hancock, Jack DeJohnette, Jaco Pastorius, Bobby McFerrin, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Terumasa Hino, Dave Holland, Charlie Haden, and Pharoah Sanders Bob Moses currently teaches at the New England Conservatory of Music Tickets are $15 for table seats, $12 for stool seats, $10 for standing room, available by visiting wwwcluboberoncom, calling 617-547-8300, or at the door, as available For more information, please visit wwwthemeltdownincentivecom, or follow The Meltdown Incentive on Facebook

Commonwealth Lyric Theater celebrates the 140th Anniversary of S Rachmaninoff His opera ALEKO was last performed in the USA in 1916 Do not miss the chance to see this masterpiece!
The singers are, once again, internationally renowned opera stars and highly professional local singers: Mikhail Svetlov as Aleko (La Scala, Bolshoi Theater), Pawel Izdebski as the Old Gypsy (Mr Izdebski has been singing as a lead singer with Maestro Zubin Mehta for many years), Janna Baty as Zemfira (Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Boston), and others (see the full cast description at wwwCommonwealthLyricTheatercom)

The libretto itself is an exciting story about gypsies: love, betrayal, jealousy and, finally, a crime of passion

CLT's Artistic Director, Alexander Prokhorov, and composer/arranger Moshe Shulman, have tastefully and smoothly woven into the operatic canvas traditional gypsy songs and dances

The opera will be enhanced by the professional dance troupe’s performance of the gypsy dances

Also, children from 6-18 years old from the “Lucky Ten” Young Talent Studio will join the theater

Last, but not least, is the creative team led by the Artistic Director, Alexander Prokhorov, award-winning choreographer/stage director, Anna Kravets; conductor, Lidiya Yankovskaya, and Executive Director, Olga Lisovskaya
