Celebrity Series of Boston is New England's leading presenter of music, dance, and the performing arts from around the world. Founded in 1938, the Series incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in 1989. Each year, the Celebrity Series brings to Boston's major concert halls performances by instrumental and vocal soloists, symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, dance companies, jazz and popular music performers, folk and ethnic performance groups, and other performing artists.

      I think the music is even more important than some dancers. I saw one modern ballet in Australia and the music was terrible. Insensitive somehow. The dancing was exceptional.

      We went open minded, as we do enjoy creative dancing and avant garde, kind of Cirque du Soleil. We were also inspired by the images posted everywhere, including on this website. It turns out it was a big disappointment. The dancers couldn't dance. They were better than average acrobats, but not near as good as Cirque du Soleil. In fact, they seemed constipated and depressing. Not a single time inspiring. We were also surprised that there was very little dancing involved. 90% of the time they were just hanging around. The images advertised are misleading. There is no such a thing. Don't waste your time and money on this piece of crap. We want our money back! Collapse

      The powerful return of The National Philharmonic of Russia was a thoroughly satisfying event of wonderful music making. However, subtle playing was laxing much of the time. One was left desiring a much more refined string sound, especially in the softer sections. One certainly would expect no less than ideal pianissimi with an other worldly warmth and glow considering the great Russian School of Violin playing. Kudos to the beautiful Principal Clarinetist and the young Principal Trumpeter. The Principal Horn player contributed magnificent playing on his own but seemed not to respect his interaction with the rest of the orchestra. The Bass Clarinetist/Tenor Saxophonist was the only true embarrassment of the evening with sloppy playing and poor pitch. The young piano soloist certainly had the fingers but didn't live up to the hype. Far too much over-pedaling and blurring of the tone. This was a thrilling event, especially with the final Spanish encore, leaving one delighted. Collapse
