Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center

The Cambridge Multicultural Art Center (CMAC) is a non-profit corporation founded in 1978 as an arts center focused on helping diverse populations better understand one another. Our mission is to present multicultural visual and performing arts programs to educate the community about diversity, and make our facility available to artists or groups that might not otherwise have access to a professionally equipped facility or the cultural mainstream.

    Retazos del Sol (Traces of the Sun) Multicultural Arts Center Retazos del Sol (Traces of the Sun) Presented by Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center at Multicultural Arts Center April 26-August 31, 2012 Collographs and paintings by Afro-Cuban artist Choco. RECEPTION: Thursday, May 3, 6:30-8:30 PM. Choco utilizes collography in his work, a printmaking technique in which the image is composed from a variety of textured materials placed on a plate, then inked and pressed. These materials, often discarded remnants, are recycled by Choco and turned into vibrant images that beckon to be touched. In the Upper Gallery

      I have choreographed a 1-Hour, highly accessible, screamingly funny Die Fledermaus Suite. This will be sung in English by outstanding and fast-rising artists from New England Light Opera! One of our singers just made it to the Semi-Finals of a Competition in NYC, and will actually sing in her Competition in NYC on the morning of our Tech Rehearsal! We wish her the best and admire her stamina, as she said she will still attend our Tech at night after that long day! I am partnered by the highly versatile Jim Banta, and have created beautiful and humorous costumes to fit the characters of the operetta. Lively piano accompaniment will be showcased by the CMAC's outstanding acoustics! Sallee Slagle and her Forty Steps Dance Company will join us for the Fledermaus' Finale. I had the pleasure of attending a rehearsal of hers recently, and was very moved and taken with her piece: LUX AETERNA. This is a MUST-SEE! This is a fun-filled way to kick off your Holiday Season!!
