The Boston Conservatory

The Boston Conservatory trains exceptional young performing artists for careers that enrich and transform the human experience. Known for its multi-disciplinary environment, the Conservatory offers fully accredited graduate and undergraduate programs in music, dance and theater, and presents more than 200 performances each year by students, faculty and guest artists. The intimacy of our class settings provides a student-centered atmosphere that is uniquely intensive and supportive. Since its founding in 1867, The Boston Conservatory has shared its talent and creativity with the city of Boston, the region, and the nation, and continues to grow today as a vibrant community of artists and educators. Armed with new energy and new ambitions, the Conservatory is in the midst of a revitalization from top to bottom, setting the stage for new achievements for the institution and our students.

The opera is based on an adaptation by John Davies with music by Mozart. The 45-minute show is geared toward children in grades K-6. Kirsten Z. Cairns, director of opera studies at The Boston Conservatory, directs. All performers are students pursuing professional training at The Boston Conservatory.

      An absolutely smashing performance! Wow, the dynamism, the professionalism, the precision of the dancing, the acting, the musicianship of orchestra, chorus, and vocalists in the Boston Conservatory's presentation of "Strike Up The Band would be hard to match. It's a pity there were only two performances. I'd go again if I could. Collapse

      It is wonderful to see a dancer or an audience viewer complaining about Anna Sokolow's Rooms. Anna Sokolow works are just that way. Some dancers like to do Anna's work, and some do not. I, for one, loved the honor of having Anna Sokolow set an original ballet on the company I dance with. BoCo students are fortunate to have Jim May come to set any Sokolow Ballet. Yasi Tokunaga does well to get the interpreter of record, Jim May, to set one of Anna's signature works. There is so much out there that is nothing. Like it or not, Anna's works are not nothing.       Riveting play, loosely based on a true story from the 1920's. This was an exceptional production in all aspects. The creative staging was enhanced by the unique physical space that is Midway Studios theater area. The direction, the acting(!),sound, lighting, costumes, make-up....everything was top-notch, and gelled beautifully. Timing was perfection. Pity that the scheduled run was only 4 performances. One aside...I would have liked the printed program to include, at least to some extent, the dramaturgy work shown on placards in the lobby. Collapse
