Boston Choral Ensemble

The Boston Choral Ensemble, one of New England's premiere chamber choirs, is an auditioned, mixed-voice ensemble dedicated to providing opportunities for singers and audiences to enjoy and learn about challenging, high-quality choral music. Our programs are recognized for their innovative blend of repertoire from across many centuries interspersed with regular commentary from the singers. Under the leadership of artistic director Andrew Shenton, the group presents six to ten performances each season in the greater Boston area including three pay-as-you-can programs in Copley Square. The Ensemble has several community outreach partners and sponsors the region's largest commissioning competition with an annual award supporting the creation of new works for chamber choir.

      In the latest show of its current season, the BCE delivered a gem of a show, the dark and solemn music of Tenebræ juxtaposed with the uniquely fitting poetry of modern songwriter, Bob Dylan. The stark beauty of the soloists and duets peppered throughout the performance showcased the immense talent this group has to work with. We all left the concert feeling at peace, inspired, and greatly looking forward to the Boston Choral Ensemble's next show. Collapse

      I was very impressed with the Boston Chorale Ensemble's show. I enjoyed the music for it's beautiful composition and excellent performance. I was so pleased by the creativity of choosing the Tenebrae and presenting it in a secular way with spiritual readings that both complimented the music and could appeal to anyone. The Ensemble is excellent all around and I would highly recommend attending one of their performances. Collapse

      It is always refreshing to attend a concert in Boston exposing new and interesting repertoire. Featuring the incredibly clear and brilliant solo voice of soprano Tess Wakim at its center, the choral movements framed the piece with an elevated "soundscape" of ethereal and anonymous beauty throughout. Led by conductor Miguel Felipe, the choir executed this layering of rhythmic and melodic ostinato with admirable precision and confidence. I will make a point to attend BCE's concerts in the future!       I was expecting typical choral music and was blown away at the atmospheric and chilling aural landscape created by this masterful group of talented vocalists! I couldn't get the tunes out of my head, I just wanted to close my eyes and enter blissful nirvana as the surreal soundscaping crafted an illusory dreamworld unlike anything from my wildest dreams. BCE is amazing and I would recommend their performances to anyone with an open mind for amazing expertly delivered choral music. Collapse
