Gore Place

The Federal period, historic house and estate of Massachusetts Governor Christopher Gore includes a small farm with sheep, goats and poultry. The elegantly furnished mansion has been called "the Monticello of the North" and architectural historians consider it to be the most significant Federal period mansion in New England.

    Folk Art in a Fine Place: Surprises from the Gore Place Collection Gore Place Folk Art in a Fine Place: Surprises from the Gore Place Collection Presented by Gore Place at Gore Place December 28, 2011-June 1, 2012 Among the items displayed in this whole-house exhibit entitled are the trade sign from Christopher Gore's family's paint shop, the weathervane from the1793 carriage house, and Frances Pinckny Gore's 1732 sampler. Placed throughout the mansion, these unique items give a glimpse into the private lives of this distinguished couple. Viewed as part of the mansion tour. Tour times are Monday through Friday at 1pm. Saturdays at 12, 1, 2 & 3pm.

The Gores did. Those servants included Robert Roberts, author of House Servant's Directory. Much of the information for this tour came straight out of Roberts's book. This tour offers views of this beautiful 1806 mansion.

Before the concert, stroll the grounds or enjoy a picnic on the lawns. Doors open at 7pm. June 6, Sinti Rhythm play gypsy jazz.

Before the concert, stroll the grounds or enjoy a picnic on the lawns. Doors open at 7pm. June 13, Amaryllis Chamber Ensemble play music for flute and strings. $10, $8 members and ages 5-12.
    06/17/12	Music of Ludwig van Beethoven Gore Place Music of Ludwig van Beethoven Presented by Gore Place at Gore Place June 17, 2012 Enjoy an all Beethoven concert with Susanna Ogata, principal violinist with the Handel and Haydn Society and Sylvia Berry, fortepiano. Incuded will be the Violin Sonata in G major, Op. 30, No. 3. Don't miss the opportunity to hear this wonderful program performed on period instruments in an historic setting!

      What a lovely way to spend Valentine's afternoon! A well-informed guide in period costume led us through the country manor house, sprinkling bits of history, culture, and literature as we toured. Can't wait to return for snowshoeing or a spring outdoor/indoor comprehensive tour. Collapse
