Old Sturbridge Village

Old Sturbridge Village is a "must-see" destination to experience early New England life from 1790-1840. One of the country's largest living history museums, OSV has a large staff of historians in costume, 59 historic buildings on 200 acres, three authentic water-powered mills and two covered bridges. Visitors can ride in a stagecoach, view antiques, heirloom gardens, meet the farm animals, and take part in hands-on crafts year-round.

      I went to the Evening at the Kiln two years ago mostly because my father is a potter and wanted to go. I found it to be surprisingly fun. You'd think that watching clay bake would be like watching paint dry, but they have a couple of guys feeding the fire and you get to watch. They teach you a bit about the process and culture of firing. They also make it a party. There's music and plenty of refreshments. You get a complimentary hand made mug. The potter is there to demonstrate throwing on the wheel and you get to decorate a plate and make a pot. When I was there we stayed pretty late and only left because we had a two hour drive home.
