Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts

The Eliot School offers classes and workshops for all ages in crafts and fine arts. A full-service wood shop, a sewing room, and a large all-purpose art room make up our landmark 1831 building in the heart of Jamaica Plain. Ample on-street parking nearby, or walk from Orange Line or buses.

05/24/12- 06/07/12	Finishing for Woodworkers Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts Finishing for Woodworkers Presented by Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts at Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts May 24-June 7, 2012 Co-sponsored by Eastern Mass. Guild of Woodworkers Learn the basics of fine finishing, including French polish, wax and oil, and more. See how different finishes alter the color of wood, and how to finish both flat and joined surfaces. Understand proper use of finishing solutions and materials, including considerations involved in choosing non-toxic alternatives. Bring a small object you have made (box, stool), if you like. Start with a given plan and work it through to completion using hand and machine sewing. Learn how to use a sewing machine, choose and cut patterns, and use basic sewing terms, methods and tools.     I started a program in the Hudson Valley region.I started up 4yrs ago as a hobby to see if there was a need and I became addicted. I'am now retired from the Carpenters Union were I taught as a Apprenticeship teacher for 7 several years and plan on doing this as a full time career.
