Guild of Woodworkers Learn the basics of fine finishing, including French polish, wax and oil, and more. See how different finishes alter the color of wood, and how to finish both flat and joined surfaces.       04/09/12- 06/11/12	Kids’ Beginning Sewing Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts Kids’ Beginning Sewing Presented by Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts at Eliot School of Fine and Applied Arts April 9-June 11, 2012 Newcomers and returning students mix hand and machine sewing. Small classes allow for individual attention, and we encourage kids to share their skills. The youngest children start with pincushions and pillows. Older children advance to aprons, doll clothes and finally clothing. We supply materials for the first meeting. Then, with the instructor’s advice, bring your own fabric and develop your own sewing kit. Come for more than one term and make new projects each time.

As you continue to increase your comfort with basic tools, also learn to make plugged tenon joints, sculpt with rasp and spokeshave, and sharpen hand tools. Conclude with an oil-wax finish.
