| SubUrbia |
Presented by Blank Page Theatre
September 23-September 25, 2010
Plot:
Over the course of 24 hours a group of twenty-somethings who have never gotten out (or stayed out) of suburbia congregate outside a convenience store awaiting the arrival of a now famous former classmate. As the evening progresses, relationships are dissected and the broken Suburban expanse reveals the brutal effects monotony has on those living as action-less statistics of the American Dream.
Director's Statement:
Blank Page Theatre will be presenting an independent workshop production of Eric Bogosian’s “SubUrbia” on September 23rd, 24th, and 25th at The Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts. The play is a dissection of the contemporary Suburban landscape and of the deep-rooted effects it has on its youth population. This production will be exploring the space between pivotal scenes with a parallel narrative utilizing movement and music to develop the inner psychological landscape of each character. In a play so rich with Chekhovian psychology and buried intention, the juxtaposition of such visceral and sensory mediums as the human body and pure auditory catharsis expose the youthful irreverence, displacement and aspirations of an entire generation living just beneath the surface. This is a play for and about all those who have been affected and disaffected by the American dream. The workshop will be directed by Michael Flowers and Emily Patterson. Tickets will go on sale through Boston Theatre Scene in early to mid September.
