
MWS Concerts in the Park
Presented by Metropolitan Wind Symphony at Hastings Park Bandstand
July 8-July 29, 2010
The Metropolitan Wind Symphony will perform 4 Free traditional outdoor Band Concerts on Thursday July 8, 15, 22, and 29, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm, at Hastings Park, Levi Burnell Bandstand, Mass. Ave. and Worthen Road, Lexington, MA. MWS Music director Lewis J. Buckley will conduct the varied music programs, which will have something for all tastes. Selections will include Selections from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein, Blue Tango by Leroy Anderson, A Tribute to Irving Berlin, The Music Man by Meredith Willson, Beauty and the Beast by Alan Menken, Washington Post, Semper Fidelis, and Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa, Russian Sailors' Dance by Reinhold Gliere, Star Spangled Spectacular by George M. Cohan, Americans We by Henry Fillmore, Marches of John Williams, American Salute by Morton Gould, Turkey in the Straw by Lewis Buckley, and Selections from Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin. Dorothy Bromage, who is sponsoring the July 8th concert, will conduct Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever that night. Also at the July 8th concert, the MWS will perform the world premiere of Fanfare in C by Alexandra Conza, a 14 year old student who won an honorable mention in our Fanfare Competition. Patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and to picnic while enjoying the concerts. The concerts will be held, weather permitting. A fine time will be had by all!
