Luiz Simas with Jason Davis & Bertram Lehmann

Presented by Amazing Things Arts Center at Amazing Things Art Center

September 11, 2010

Rio-born Brazilian composer/singer/pianist Luiz Simas is a genuine Carioca! A New Yorker since ‘89, he has led original groups in many clubs including Birdland, as well as jazz festivals in Norway, Brazil, and most recently, the Ukraine. Luiz' voice and music have warmed major venues including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and Bargemusic in NYC. His CDs include Cafuné, Impromptu, Luiz Simas Live in NYC, New Chorinhos from Brazil and Recipe for Rhythm. On this concert at Amazing Things Luiz will play piano and sing, with Jason Davis on bass and Bertram Lehmann on drums. Come and listen to an assortment of beautifully re-arranged Brazilian bossa nova standards, as well as Luiz' own originals in bossa and choro styles, and even some American favorites played with a Brazilian flavor. "Luiz Simas is not only a wonderful musician, singer and composer, he is an engaging performer who draws his audience into his witty, joyful, sensuous musical world. Simas epitomizes the fantasies we non-Brazilians have about that wonderful country, and with him, we all get to be Brazilian, at least for the a couple hours!" - Judy Carmichael, pianist About the musicians playing with Luiz Simas: Jason Davis Jason is an active performer and teacher of upright bass, electric bass, guitar, and piano in the Boston area.
