Looking South: Salem’s South River – Sept. 12th at 2:00pm


The first of Historic Salem Inc.’s 2010 Sundays in September Walking Tours On September 12th at 2 p.m. join local historian, Margherita Desy, in front of the 17th century Gedney House at 21 High Street. Travel back to Salem’s early port and trace what remains of the South River. See how one can "read" the topography to discern the original "bed" or path of the river and learn about the impact of the Great Salem Fire of 1914. This tour will last approximately 90 minutes and suggested donation of $5 for members and $10 for non-members will contribute to Historic Salem’s Preservation Mission. And don’t miss the September 26th tour of Salem State University and the Forest River lead mills which will meet in front of the Sullivan building at 2:00pm.
