Exhibition: Wiyohpiyata: Lakota Images of the Contested West
Presented by Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology at Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology May 12, 2009-December 30, 2013 Wiyohpiyata: Lakota Images of the Contested West explores the meanings of a recently discovered nineteenth-century "artist's book," in the collection of Houghton Library, that had been recovered from the Little Big Horn battlefield after Custer's defeat in 1876. The exhibit presents colored drawings by Plains Indian warriors from the book with historic Lakota objects from the Peabody's collections.

Ansel Adams: At the Water's Edge

He was drawn to the subject in all its forms, from rain, fog, mist and clouds to ice and snow. He also photographed water's effects in tide pools, weathered buildings and erosion patterns. His fascination with surf and crashing waves fed his interest in waterfalls and rapids in the High Sierra. In Yellowstone, it fueled his photographs of Old Faithful.
