#CreateTheVoteBoston: Policy Priorities for Boston’s Next Mayor

Boston’s 2021 mayoral election is approaching! The next Mayor of Boston will have the opportunity to lead Boston out of the COVID-19 pandemic towards a more inclusive, just, and connected city.

ArtsBoston, in partnership with our colleagues at MASSCreative, is a core steering committee member of Create the Vote Boston 2021: a coalition made up of artists, creative workers, and arts and cultural organizations working together to ensure Boston’s arts and cultural community is visible during the 2021 Boston mayoral campaign and a priority in the next mayoral administration.

In advance of the Primary Municipal Election on September 14 and the final Municipal Election on November 2, we will be keeping you updated in our e-newsletter and on social media on important dates and times, the voting process, and resources about each candidate that can help inform your voting experience this year.

The coalition’s three priorities for the city’s next mayor are laid out in the #CTVBoston2021 policy platform. ArtsBoston has endorsed this platform and we encourage you to join us in making sure our voices are heard as we take an active stance on the changes we want to see in our city:

Invest in Arts and Culture for All

Significantly increase arts and cultural funding to ensure a creative sector in Boston where everyone has access to creative expression and cultural experiences across their lifespan.

Develop The Next Generation of Leaders in Boston through Arts and Culture

Increase funding and program support for arts education in Boston Public Schools and access to creative youth development programs across the city.

Create Space for Arts Experiences and Cultural Celebrations

Make Boston a more arts and culture-friendly city by increasing space for the creation and presentation of art, streamlining permitting processes, and removing barriers for holding cultural events.

Please read and consider endorsing the platform alongside us.
