Boston to host Americans For The Arts Annual Convention, June 2016

From Julie Burros, City of Boston Chief of Arts and Culture

For more than 50 years, Americans for the Arts has convened arts and community leaders to network and discuss strategies for building stronger towns, counties, and cities through the arts. This year marks the first time Boston serves as the host site for this Convention, and we proudly invite you to join us from June 17–19, with preconferences beginning on June 16. This year’s opening plenary and lunch will feature a keynote address from Diane Paulus, Artistic Director at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University, followed by an interview and Q&A session with Risë Wilson, Director of Philanthropy for the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.

This year’s attendees can look forward to a multi-faceted conference agenda filled with stimulating workshops and sessions where artists, arts administrators, and policymakers from across the country can learn from and inspire each other. The festivities include three preconferences, keynote addresses, performances, debates and concurrent sessions, and a great opening reception at the Top of the Hub.

In your few precious hours outside of the Americans for the Arts Annual Convention, you will find 400 years of history at your feet, a world-class array of traditional arts and culture offerings, and an unmatched collection of universities that are training the smartest, most accomplished, and most innovative young creative people in the world.

You can check out our amazing artists and neighborhood cultural gems first hand on an ARTventure Tour, or take part in the Fort Point Arts Community Open Studios festival happening that same weekend. As you explore our city, you will encounter a remarkably diverse population that is deeply engaged in creative expression and that strongly believes in the transformative power of the arts.
